Trio of Woven Carry Baskets - Circle of Pattern & Purpose – Enkito e Oltau (Step of Gathering).
More than baskets—this trio is a woven invocation of rhythm, identity, and ceremonial readiness.
Introducing the Enkito e Oltau Circle of Pattern & Purpose: three handcrafted baskets made from natural fibers, each with a distinct weave and color story. The left basket features diagonal stripes in deep green, red, and beige; the center basket carries vertical green and beige bands; and the right basket bursts with horizontal orange, green, black, and beige layers. Their sturdy handles, wrapped in colored thread, signal movement and ritual care. This ensemble transforms containment into storytelling and pattern into chant.
Artisan Connection:
Handwoven by cooperatives in Nyeri, Kenya, the baskets are shaped using coiling and plaiting techniques that reflect Maasai shield symbolism and Kikuyu seasonal rhythm. Each pattern speaks to lineage, readiness, and visual breath, while the color palettes evoke elemental harmony and festive energy.
