Nested Wooden Trays with Woven Surround - Circle of Grain & Gathering – Enkito e Oltau (Step of Offering).
More than trays—this ensemble is a carved invocation of movement, memory, and ceremonial readiness.
Introducing the Enkito e Oltau Circle of Grain & Gathering: a set of richly grained wooden trays, each with oval cut-out handles and nested form, resting atop a vibrant array of woven baskets. The trays showcase natural wood patterns—swirls, striations, and tonal shifts—while the surrounding baskets pulse in purple, orange, and beige, echoing rhythm and ritual. This composition transforms containment into chant and surface into story.
Artisan Connection:
Carved by master woodworkers in Nyeri, Kenya, the trays are shaped from indigenous hardwoods using traditional hand-finishing techniques. The baskets, handwoven by women’s cooperatives, reflect Kikuyu and Maasai ceremonial colorwork and hosting geometry. Together, they form a layered offering of texture, function, and cultural breath.
